Enhancing how creatives showcase their work.
Overview
LinkedIn aims to help users better showcase creative and technical work through rich media and project-based tools.
My goal was to design custom features that make profiles more visual and reflective of users' work.

Project Management
We needed to ensure tasks were divided and tracked to an appropriate timeline. One of my roles within the group was to lead and manage the overall project. Here's how I led the group to ensure our deliverables were met on time.

Research

Research was conducted through 6 user interviews and a detailed competitive & comparative analysis of: The Dots, Dribble, Instagram, Contra & GitHub.
Some great alternatives to LinkedIn for showcasing creative work were discovered & became a source of inspiration as we ideated and iterated later in the project.
Key findings:
Very few websites offer great networking opportunities
Competitors have great tools (i.e., Light-boxes) to showcase creative work
Formatting tools are important when creating unique content
Views tracker (shows traction/analytics on a post)

Understanding The Problem
Identifying golden threads (recurring themes from user interviews and our C&C analysis) helped shape and define the core design challenge.
What we learned was that users wanted a better place to showcase their work and that they felt it necessary to have a strong social presence in order to find new work.

Problem Statement
Madelyn needs a more dynamic way to showcase her creativity in order to build meaningful connections and advance her career because professional networking platforms feel too formal and limit the way she can express her personality and creative work.
Solution & Conceptualization
Our focus narrowed toward creating & posting new content. In our new user flow, users have the ability to add portfolio projects, enabling creative freedom while providing additional tools to create and share their best work.
Key features included:
Ability to create a dynamic project
Bento/list formats - Enabling more deliberate size & positioning of content
Increased parameters for visual content from 55% to 75% of screen size
Use of tabs to distinguish key sections of the profile
Design decisions
Grid Layout
Columns: 23
Margin: 190
Gutter: 26

LinkedIn uses a non-traditional grid layout, which posed alignment challenges. We chose to keep the existing structure but explored new uses such as removing the right column and expanding the portfolio tab across the full grid. This enabled us to create a more content-focused experience.
Final Product
The images below highlight new features in the portfolio tab that help creatives better showcase their work. Users can tag skills and collaborators to boost SEO and project visibility.
Create a dynamic project
Users now have the tools to create and showcase their best work, with features like collaborator tagging and SEO optimization helping content reach the right audience.

Bento/List format in Tabs
The expanded visual space within the portfolio tab lets users showcase their work more effectively and the dynamic bento box layout allows for flexible resizing and repositioning of content.

Conclusion & Learning
With just three weeks for the project, long and ineffective early meetings made decision-making a challenge. This pushed us to adopt a more direct, decisive approach which ultimately improved our team’s collective focus and performance.
Our work became more fluid we worked together in a more agile way, taking on and switching between multiple tasks in order to meet our timeline while still producing quality work.
Some of my most valuable learning came from collaborating on the competitive and comparative analysis. My teammate excelled in this area, and I appreciated how all ideas were thoughtfully considered. Organizing insights into "glows" and "grows" helped highlight both strengths and areas to avoid among competitors. This is an approach I’ve already carried into new projects and plan to keep using.
